YOU DID IT! You did your part to help change the lives of homeless women with children and because of your generosity HEARTH is able to continue opening doors for
families in crisis. Your donation ensures that families in our community will receive services they so desperately need.
The tremendous support from the community has overwhelmed us as we have settled into our new home in Shaler Township. We received an increase number of donors this
past holiday season which gave the families in HEARTH's Programs, HOMES and PRIDE, security, safety, warmth and light. For the first time, there were Angel
Trees specifically for collecting items for our HEARTH Store, our food pantry and our apartment storage.
'We're blessed to be at HEARTH,' Sarah says. 'We've met so many nice people. It means a lot to my daughter and me to know that there
are people out there who care, people who didn't even know us. I wouldn't be able to make it without the support we've received at HEARTH. I'm so grateful. My
daughter and I have everything we need. I came with my purse and few diapers. Now we are living in this apartment. We have clothing, shoes and a full pantry.
There's nothing more we can ask for.'
HEARTH couldn't have impacted Sarah's life so significantly if it were not for your support. The time spent at HEARTH means the worldfor Sarah and
especially her daughter, whom she describes as very affectionate, very smart and very artistic. 'Every stage in a person's life is important but I think
childhood is the most important,' Sarah observes. 'Being here means my daughter is going to have a safe place to stay. HEARTH means security and stability
Sincerely Yours, Judy Eakin Executive Director
Thank You From HOMH
A Letter to Discount Power From HOMH
Thank you for your donation on 3/4/2014 to Help Our Military Heroes (HOMH). Your generous gift is very important to our mission of providing brand new, fully
adaptive, ramp-assist minivans to our most severely wounded, injured, and ill active duty service members and veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.
As HOMH enters our 5th year, we remain fully committed to our mission of providing vans to our healing heroes. We have seen firsthand how very important this step
is in the rehabilitation process. These vans help our heroes establish a 'new normal' in their day-to-day lives and are critical to their outlook and
confidence in their future.
100% of your donation will be used to support the needs of our wounded military heroes. We remain an all-volunteer driven charity, and all non-program
expenses for HOMH are covered by our Founding Members and Board of Directors.
Through your generosity, HOMH has awarded 37 vans to our wounded heroes since our inception in December of 2009. We have overseen the process for 5
additional vehicles that have been awarded to our heroes. We have also provided support to several local and regional Veterans' charities.
While the U.S. presence in Afghanistan will hopefully wind down in 2014, we recognize that the need for these vans will continue to exist for years to come as
our wounded heroes continue their long and painful rehabilitation. HOMH will be there to provide an important piece in the process of regaining some of the
independence and freedom they have sacrificed for us. We thank those of you who have been loyal supporters since our founding and welcome all of our new donors
into our ever growing HOMH family.
Thank you again, Laurie Hollander President, Help Our Military Heroes, Inc.
Thank You From Freestore Foodbank
A Letter to Discount Power From Freestore Foodbank
On behalf of all of us at the Freestore Foodbank, and especially for those we serve, thank you for you generous donation.
We are very gratified by your support and for your confidence in our ability to make a difference. Without you, we would never be able to serve the thousands
of children and adults throughout the tri-state who come to us each year for food, clothing, housing, and other basic survival services.
We're doing our best to make difficult and anxious lives less so, especially during this time of growing needs and shrinking resources. However, without your
help, none of what we do would be possible. Thank you again.
Sincerely, Jennifer Ebelhar Vice President of Development
Spring Offers New Hope for Electricity Savings
Discount Power Launches Rate Plans for Existing and New Customers
Historically, Discount Power, Inc. has offered rates lower than both of the public utilities in Connecticut - Connecticut Light and Power (CL&P) and
United Illuminating (UI). Due to the record high wholesale electricity prices in New England, Discount Power's rates recently increased. However, this
is a short term price impact and Discount Power is rolling out two new reduced rate plans for both existing and new customers.
CT residents can now choose from either the Discount Choice or Discount Select programs. Both plans start on the March meter read, so April will be the
first month invoiced at the new rate. The enrollment process only takes a matter of minutes. Conveniently, you will still be billed by your existing
provider, be it CL&P or UI, and the only difference will be that Discount Power will be your generation service provider at your new low rate.
'In these continued, tough economic times, we want to help customers manage their budgets. With these two, innovative programs, consumers can plan for
their electricity expenses for several months based upon their individual needs,' said Chief Marketing Officer Michael Ferreri.
Beyond the rate savings, Discount Power is offering additional incentives to new customers. First, new customers will receive a $100 Dining Certificate
after their first month of flow, plus Discount Power's new Referral Rewards Program allows existing customers to earn this benefit. Upon a friend's
successful enrollment, the referring customer will receive a $100 Dining Certificate as will the friend that enrolled. The friend will also be eligible to
refer their friends and earn more Dining Certificates.
Secondly, Discount Power offers a free comprehensive home energy audit conducted by Climate Partners. An energy audit is a room-by-room examination by an
energy auditor. The technician conducts services such as a blower door test and thermo graphic scan, then provides some quick fixes. Technicians seal
ductwork leaks, seal gaps around the pipes in the attic, basement and garage, and install low-flow showerheads and faucet aerators, plus energy-efficient
compact fluorescent bulbs throughout the house. A typical energy audit takes from two to four hours, depending on the size of the home. An audit can cost as
much as $300.
'We continually strive to provide Connecticut residents an affordable option for the electricity supplier portion of their monthly bill,' said
Ferreri. 'An energy audit helps to identify where a home is wasting energy. By addressing those issues, the consumer's costs will be reduced and we
all conserve valuable resources.'
Discount Power is a licensed retail electricity supplier that delivers low-cost electricity to customers in deregulated electrical energy markets. Anyone
in CT can use Discount Power as their electric supplier and the company is currently expanding its business into parts of Pennsylvania and Ohio. The
Shelton-based company is committed to maintaining competitive rates and consistent savings for all of their customers. Discount Power supplies residential,
commercial, industrial and municipal users with a comprehensive suite of electric energy alternatives and value-added services that maximize savings, lower
consumption and help protect the environment.
Are You Paying Too Much for Your Power?
Journal News, 08/16/2013
Deciphering all of the data on your utility bill is about as easy as reading a letter written in hieroglyphics. Most people quickly move to the bottom of
the page to reveal their monthly bottom line in power expenses. The process of not knowing what or how you're charged makes it difficult to comparison
shop. However, electric supplier Discount Power is seeking to make purchasing power more consumer-friendly and cost effective.
Keep Your Cool This Summer Without Breaking the Bank
Middletown Journal, 07/08/2013
This summer has barely begun, yet the cycle of heat waves will no doubt continue and hit consumers hard with soaring energy costs. However, you can beat the
heat without breaking the bank. The energy experts at Discount Power, a low-cost electricity supplier now in Ohio, recommend addressing areas of inefficiency
in your home, as well as examining your electric bill. Ohio is a deregulated state, meaning consumers and businesses have the option to change electricity
suppliers to receive a lower rate.
